My College Subject Tips for Social Networking

Social networking subject is quickly becoming the way for people to communicate, especially college students. Comments sparked by content on My College subject can easily be continued through social media.

The trick to combining content from My College subject with other forms of communication is finding a creative way to integrate social media into your studies. Social networking can seem like an added chore sometimes, but with a little planning, it can be an easy way to maintain communications in a busy life.

Narrow It Down

You don’t have to be on everything. There are numerous social networks from Facebook and Twitter to MySpace and Bebop and countless others. Keeping up with all of them can take up way too much time and “friends” who visit you on each site may get annoyed if you do not update on a regular basis. Decide which of these networks are the most relevant for your studies.

Establish Goals and Prioritize

Figure out what your goals are in terms of social networking.

Who is your target audience?

Choosing the right social networks will save you time and wasted energy. It is easy to say that you want to be everywhere, but realistically you are not going to be able to keep up with every social network site on the Web and keep up the content to justify it. Choose a few that fit your needs.

Create a Profile

Adding a little personality to your profile sets you apart from everyone else. Include your name, age, location (you can be general on this) and some interests. If you are targeting potential employers, include your education, current job status and a brief summary describing yourself and why you are on that particular social network. Include random facts such as hobbies and interests. The more information and personality you express, the more you get out of your social networking experiences.

Keep Photos Decent

It is always fun to upload pictures to your social networks, but remember that whatever you post establishes your online reputation. Choose photos that reflect who you are and your interests. For a more casual feel, you can add pic of your favorite bands, movies and other interests. You may want to save the more casual photos for the social networks you use for your friends and keep others more professional.

Be Consistent

If you have multiple profiles on different networks, be consistent. Use the same screen name and same general photos for all profiles. This gives you more recognition and makes it easier for friends or subject followers to find you. This gives you wider exposure and establishes your identify.

Follow Guidelines/Keep it Positive

Social networking should be a positive experience. Each network has rules and guidelines to follow. Adhere to these. Do not use social networks for revenge or to pick fights. This gets you blocked or banned. If you receive comments that are negative or nasty, delete them or report the person if it is serious enough. Don’t stress out over it though. Social networking should be fun.

Choose a Focus

Each network is different. Some focus on specific interests. Some are more professional, while others are more casual. If you are trying to promote your band, you probably do not want to be on a network that targets professional business people more concerned with 401 K than where your band is playing this weekend.

Be Interactive

When building up your social networks, whether for professional or personal reasons, you need to be interactive with your followers and online friends. If you know you won’t keep up with a particular social network, do not join in the first place. You will quickly lose followers and interest. Update your content and photos. The more interactive you are, the more you will get out of your social networking experience. Sign into each of your accounts on a regular basis and respond to messages and comments.
